Construction progress on the Betty Barclay Group's new logistics center
Approximately one year after the groundbreaking ceremony, construction of the new logistics center at the Nußloch site is progressing according to plan. Following site preparation last winter, the individual building sections were erected using modular construction methods. In several construction and fire sections, the hall bays are being built for the activities surrounding the shuttle AKL for storage and order picking, the shipping and goods issue hall, a connecting building to link the existing buildings, and a modern content creation studio. The entire construction progress can be followed via an installed camera (see below), which provides impressive time-lapse images of the new building's construction.
Parallel to the construction work, detailed engineering began in November 2024 with the selected technology partner. In close cooperation between the Betty Barclay Group, the technology provider, and the consultants at ebp-consulting GmbH, all physical and IT processes were analyzed, coordinated, and finalized by the design freeze in April 2025. At this point, the shell of the warehouse had already been completed. Since the start of the project, regular coordination meetings have been held between the construction and technology teams to coordinate requirements at an early stage and ensure smooth implementation. The installation work for the warehouse and conveyor technology began with early access in August 2025.
The client will complete the logistics areas in December 2025. Following approval in accordance with civil and building regulations, the building will be commissioned at the beginning of 2026. The technology provider will then install the shelving systems, conveyor technology, and workstations and gradually commission them, with the new logistics center scheduled to go into operation in fall/winter 2026.
At the same time, renovation work will be completed in the existing building while it remains in operation, including wall and ceiling openings, the renewal of the electrical system, roof renovation, and the integration of conveyor technology for goods receipt and returns processing.
