Under the theme “Next Stop: Beyond Automation,” the German Material Flow Congress in Dortmund on April 15 and 16, 2026 will focus on technologies and strategies that go beyond traditional automation. The focus is on artificial intelligence, robotics, and networked systems that not only automate processes but also intelligently control, learn, act autonomously, and reintegrate humans.
The congress explores how these developments can be translated into practical and economically viable solutions—with concrete application examples, the latest research findings, and room for controversial discussions.
The German Material Flow Congress, which was launched in the mid-1980s at the Technical University of Munich by the VDI (Association of German Engineers), will take place this year for the first time as part of the MFK@TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS. Thanks to the change of venue, participants can not only attend the congress but also immediately try out the latest intralogistics and robotics solutions at the TEST CAMP.
Dr. Christian Jacobi, Partner at ebp-consulting, is a moderator at the German Material Flow Congress. Among other things, he will lead the opening session and, together with Nico Schöninger, deliver the presentation: “Efficient Warehouse Planning with the Warehouse Designer”. The presentation highlights the efficient selection of the appropriate automation technology from a wide range of options for various use cases in warehouse logistics.
Whether greenfield or brownfield—ebp-consulting helps companies develop their logistics to be high-performing and cost-effective while implementing the right level of innovative automation. The congress is of interest to us because it allows us to meet with users from industry and commerce and discuss current topics and logistics solutions in a practical context.
