Challenges of digital logistics & Industry 4.0
As Industry 4.0 progresses, logistics is increasingly becoming a highly interconnected, data-driven system. The aim of providing information and digitally mapping processes end-to-end leads to new challenges, because in addition to the professional requirements, the technological requirements must also be mastered.
Process transparency is a central challenge. In many companies, data sources have grown historically, are stored decentral and are usually not fully integrated. These data silos must be connected so that the information is usable for operations.
IoT devices, sensors, and machines represent new digital data sources. This data must be structured, prepared, and brought into an operational context. Without well-thought-out data models, the data are available but not usable.
The shift to digital logistics requires a high level of organizational and change management capability. Technological solutions alone do not create transparency; they must be integrated into existing processes and actively used by employees and process owners.
