When planning new warehouses or modernising existing warehouses or logistics centres, it is becoming increasingly difficult to compare different levels of automation and technology options. ebp-consulting has developed a tool that enables the neutral and efficient selection of the right warehouse technology.
A high-performance warehouse is at the heart of an efficient supply chain. It ensures that material flows run smoothly, production processes are continuously supplied and customer orders can be reliably fulfilled. However, especially in times of increasing demands on delivery speed, flexibility and cost efficiency, many companies are faced with the challenge of future-proofing their warehouse and logistics systems. The selection of the right warehouse technology – from racking structures to conveyor and picking technology to automation and IT solutions – has a decisive impact on the cost-effectiveness and performance of the entire system.
When planning new warehouses or modernising existing logistics centres, the decision on the right level of automation is becoming increasingly complex. The spectrum ranges from manually operated systems with simple racking technology to highly automated facilities with driverless transport systems, shuttles, robotics and digital order control. But which solution is right for the respective company? Too little automation leads to high personnel costs and limited performance, while excessive automation can lead to high investment and operating costs and restrict flexibility.
The main goal is therefore to select the optimal solution for the individual process – technically, economically and organisationally. This is where our WarehouseDesign tool comes in. This specially developed planning tool enables a neutral, comparative evaluation of different storage and conveyor technologies. It has proven itself in numerous projects – both in the planning of new warehouses and in the optimisation of existing systems.
The tool can be used to simulate, dimension and evaluate the economic viability of different warehouse concepts in a very short time. These include small parts warehouses, pallet warehouses, shelving racks, picking and conveyor technologies, and automated systems such as shuttle warehouses or AutoStore solutions. Parametric modelling and standardised key figure comparisons allow variants to be objectively compared in terms of performance, investment, space requirements, energy consumption and personnel deployment.
A key advantage of our approach is our vendor neutrality. We have no interest in favouring certain systems or manufacturers. Instead, we develop solutions that are consistently geared towards our customers' requirements. Our neutral assessment ensures that the chosen concept is both technically sound and economically viable.
In addition, our WarehouseDesign tool enables a transparent presentation of the business case evaluation. By calculating life cycle costs (TCO – Total Cost of Ownership) and taking into account scalability, maintenance costs and process reliability, we ensure that the investment decision is sound in the long term.
Our expertise is based on decades of experience in the planning, evaluation and implementation of intralogistics systems. We support companies across all industries – from the concept phase and detailed planning to implementation and commissioning. We combine engineering expertise with economic analysis and practical methods of lean warehousing and Logistics 4.0.
The result: a warehouse concept that is optimally tailored to your processes – efficient, economical, scalable and future-proof. With our WarehouseDesign tool, we create the basis for fact-based decisions and the targeted, sustainable development of your internal logistics.
